STAR LOGO KALEIDOSCOPE PROJECT
1. Process
To begin working on this project, we first researched kaleidoscopes and how they function. During this period of time, we also touched up on reflection and translation.
We began experimenting in the coding software Star Logo by trying to make figures move and messing with the terrain. For me, personally, it was hard to grasp the whole concept of 'coding.' I am not very good with computers or anything technology wise.
Once we had a basic idea of the program, we drew out our idea for a kaleidoscope on a scrap of paper, making adjustments based on our knowledge of Star Logo and determining how many lines of reflection we wanted. We then began to code in our shapes, changing our ideas as we went along. The figures had to reflect over our lines, almost like a mirror. What happened on one side had to also happen in an inverted fashion on the other side.

2. Reflection
This whole project was a bit challenging for me. I was taken out of my comfort zone because of all the coding involved, a skill I had not practiced before. In the end, with some help from both the teacher and my peers, I was able to complete the task. During this whole project, there were a few habits of a mathematician that I used. The biggest one, however, had to be being patient, confident and persistant. Because this was a totally new experience for me, I had to be sure to keep at it and not get discouraged when things didn't work out the way I wanted them to. Very often, I would get confused or not know if I was doing something right. I just had to remind myself that I would get it eventually, and I just needed to try different approaches to the problem.
Things that went well included my final product. I feel like it was well put-together, and showed all the elements that we learned about during class. (Reflection, translation, rotation...) However, I feel like could have created a more elaborate design that included more lines of reflection. I could have challenged myself by not just doing the bare minimum.
